OASIS ADOPTION FORUM PROCEEDINGS Moderator: David Petraitis, European Representative, OASIS 09:30 09:45 10:15 Denmark is about to harvest the crops of the seeds sown by the OASIS Universal Business Language Technical Committee (UBL). The Danish eBusiness working group based its work on an early draft of the UBL specification. The outcome of that work is now being used in the integration of a public sector procurement system and financial systems across most state institutions in Denmark. The Danish localised version of the UBL specification will, in January 2005, be a mandatory data exchange format for companies wishing to sell goods to state institutions. This requirement will boost the usage and knowledge of UBL in Denmark. The presentation describes the Danish approach to standardisation of public sector XML-interfaces and localisation of international standards. 10:45 This presentation addresses the design principles and implementation details of the open sourced Borges collaborative content creation system. Entirely based on open standards and tools, notably the DocBook OASIS Standard and related technologies, Borges allows large teams of remote contributors and editors to simultaneously create and maintain content, totalising thousands of pages, in many languages. The presentation details the way the Borges system makes full use of XML and DocBook capabilities to assign tasks between contributors, smoothen the synchronization process between languages, etc. 11:30 Even with the most finely tuned working model of interoperability, how will ebXML and Web services be implemented in the real world? What will change to provide a solution to one of today's most critical uptake roadblocks, that of governance and procedure issues? How can existing organizations, be they government, standards bodies, software vendors, consulting firms, or university and research groups, plug into this new world? How will the convergence of Web services and ebXML affect this growth? Answering these questions will highlight some of the current hurdles, the massive opportunity, and the direction for true widespread adoption of business-to-business integration. 12:00 This presentation describes an ambitious project granted by the European Commission (6th Framework Program) to speed up the use of XBRL, by increasing awareness and helping jurisdictions to start and to expand. The session also includes a short update on XBRL adoption within 25 countries from all over Europe. 14:00 This presentation focuses on the challenges, the project, and implementation around a North Asian Government Trading Community. It highlights the broader business and operational context in using an ebXML messaging framework within a trading community, Government to Business (G2B). 14:30 This presentation describes a proof-of-concept project being undertaken by the OASIS e-Government Committee to demonstrate how the ebXML Registry OASIS Standard forms a suitable basis for schema management. 15:00 The EU faces many challenges in meeting the goals articulated by the eTen program and its vision. With 25 member states, how can a common interoperable infrastructure be put in place that is easy for citizens to adopt, is based on open standards, and is developing real e-service community solutions for government and business deployments? During this session, the presenter explores a solution. 15:30 This presentation discusses the centrality of authentication of identity functions to the many e-applications that governments are developing, and what practical approaches are being considered and tested. The session highlights how important it is for governments to work with standards organisations to develop testing programs for solutions that implement open standards. 16:15 Closing the event was an interactive panel made up of respected organisations
involved in the standards industry. Representatives from CEN, the Belgium Government,
and IDA joined OASIS to discuss the importance of open standards to their constituency,
as well as provide an update on how they are implementing standards in their communities. For more details on the UNECE TSIED Seminar - held on 5 October (including presentation materials), please go to http://www.unece.org/ie/wp8/internet/programme.htm |
